What a sewage backup costs an Akron household is mostly decided after the water is gone, by what the floor and the walls down there happen to be made of. Two houses on the same street can take the same few inches of contaminated water and end up with completely different jobs.

Nobody Goes Down There Until These Five Things Are Done
- Shut the water off at every appliance and tell the household to stop flushing. A line with no capacity left sends back whatever you put in, and it arrives within minutes.
- Cut the circuits for the lower level before anybody goes down. In most of this housing stock the panel is screwed straight to the foundation wall, low enough that a couple of inches on the floor puts the bottom of the box in play, and at that moment it stops being a homeowner job at all.
