Clogged Drains

They pop up all the time and can be just around the corner for your household. Many different factors, both in and out of your control, affect the frequency of drainage system backups.

Materials Needed

Toilet Plunger—not just for bathrooms anymore, a toilet plunger is a great tool for any drain that is experiencing issues.

  • Screwdriver—this everyday tool is a great reach extender to help you get at the source of your drainage clog quicker and easier.
  • Plumbing snake—this tool will get you even further into your drainage system.
  • Roto-Rooter drain cleaners and enzymes—these products contain chemicals and bacteria with the cleaning properties needed to prevent clogs from forming.

Steps for Success

When the drain first starts to clog, you should look into the drain to see if the cause of the problem is visible. If it is, use a screwdriver to reach into the drain and start cleaning out as much as possible by hand.

  1. If this isn't the solution to the drainage problem, use a toilet plunger to work free anything stuck in the system. Most of the time, just a bit of suction will go a long way to jostle free blockages.
  2. In the event the plunger fails to resolve the issue, use a plumbing snake. This tool is designed to run the length of the drainage pipe and get to the source of the problem quickly. Push the snake in using a twisting motion to allow it to easily hook the crud in the way.
  3. When the clog and blockage have been removed, go the extra mile with Roto-Rooter plumbers’ drain cleaner and enzymes to help promote a clean drainage system free of future issues.
