This is my second time using Roto-Rooter. The technician left such an impression, that Roto-Rooter was the first company when a bigger problem developed. The technician was very proffessional. He explained what had to be done and how to accomplish it, without talking- down me. They have won my trust and confidence! I'll use them again.

Whenever there is a service job, there is always a possibility of mental models to collide. I had a mental model of what the work that was needed and a rough cost for what that would be. Initial discussions did not meet my mental model and I must admit there was some "shock" value. First of all when a 4 hour window is given, I did not expect to be in the last 15 minutes of that window, however, I do understand how work can run long. They did meet the window and were very professional even admist my anxiety due to taking time off work to get the work done. As soon the technician, Charlie arrived. I was put at ease in regards to his demeanor and also his knowledge. We discussed the job and I got the price. Again, I came in with a mental model and what was shared with me did not line up. It was almost double. We talked about it, got it all documented and then our mutual understanding became apparent. He could tell that I was a bit shocked and did reduce the blow by doing what was within his control. Waiving the service fee and also applying an internet coupon. He was flexible to be able to do the work right after the assessment and that was a relief. I agreed to the work and he was on his way. **One note is overall cost does not always put the cutomer at ease. Parts and labor are used in other industries and that was not provided in this case. The work was done in a very professional and clean way and even when some things did not go according to plan, it was addressed on the spot. I would highly recommend Roto Rooter for any work that needs to be done, but if I could offer a suggestion, some transparency in regards to the costs and shown structure to the cost point may benefit the company/customer relationship right at the onset of the appointment. Maybe even listing out some generics on your website. I do not want it to be mis-understood by my length reply that there was dissatisfaction with Roto Rooter or Charlie. That is absolutly not the case. I am very pleased with the work that was done. However, I do want to express that there is always going to be a shock value and an uncertain feeling when expertise gets put on paper without a very detailed explination. The service tech called to notify me before arrival and arrived on time. He reviewed the issues and suggested a smaller water heater (55 vs 80). He showed me the pricing guide and I agreed to go ahead. I was surprised by the pricing as I thought it was slightly high. The tech removed the old water heater and installed the new one in under three hours. The work site was cleaned up and the tech verified the water heater was heating up and not leaking before leaving.
