Here is a bit of trivia. Did you know that Roto-Rooter can also pump your septic tank? Just give us a call. In case you have wondered how a septic system works, here are a few basic lessons on how this efficient and simple process works:
Septic Tanks and Drain Fields
If your home is equipped with a septic system, when you flush your toilet, drain your sink or tub, or do your laundry, all the waste water flows through a sewer pipe to the septic tank. Once inside the tank, the sewage begins a process of separation. The solid materials, or sludge, settle to the bottom of the tank. The greasy, fatty materials, called scum, rise to the top. The leftover liquid, also known as effluent, runs out of the tank and into the drain field. This part of the septic system contains perforated pipes. When the effluent enters the pipes, it seeps into the soil around the pipes and is filtered as it dissipates into the soil, rock, and gravel. During this process, all the impurities in the effluent are removed.
Your septic tank will need to be pumped every few years. Contact Roto-Rooter to check your leaking water heater and at the same time schedule your septic tank pumping. A prompt response will make your septic tank ready for another season of waste disposal.
