Experienced Plumber: Who to Call When Things Wear-Out

Experienced Plumber: Who to Call When Things Wear-Out

Do you have a friend who would be willing to come over to your house in the middle of the night and work on your toilet? If you ponder on that question and still come up blank, think about all the friends you have in the plumbing business! Your plumber friends from Roto-Rooter will be right over in the middle of the night, whether it is to fix your toilet or replace your sump pump.

There are numerous things in your home that can break or wear-out over time. Consider the fact that every mechanical fixture or appliance will age and eventually stop working. This includes your hot water heater, the food disposer, faucets, the air conditioner and your toilets.. Most of these items can be fixed or replaced by your friends from Roto-Rooter!

As a homeowner, there are some simple preventive maintenance tasks that you can perform periodically that will keep your appliances in good working condition and will prolong their mechanical lives. Here are some tips in what you can include in your own home maintenance program.

Air Conditioner. Your AC unit is a closed system. That means that all mechanical work on the system should be done by an experienced and licensed cooling specialist. You can, however, change the blower filters every three months. Be sure to use the correct size for your system. You can also check the fins of the AC condenser unit and clear out any debris, leaves, or dirt. This is easily done using a lawn blower.

  • Sump Pump. Your sump system is the only thing standing between the high water table in your area and a flooded home. If the pump in your system stops working you may experience a flood unless you discover the problem before the water comes in. It is a good idea to check and test your sump pump at least once a year. Do this by pouring a bucket of water into the sump pit. The water should disappear within a few seconds.
  • Hot Water Heater. Your water heater is a mechanical device that gets used every day. It is prone to having sediment build up in the tank. This can drastically reduce the efficiency of the system. Call your plumber friend from Roto-Rooter to take care of flushing your tank. While he is taking care of that task, also have him replace the anode rod in the tank if that is needed.

When Roto-Rooter arrives, you will get a detailed estimate of all work that needs to be done. That means there will be no surprises when it is time to pay.
