Are you having trouble with your plumbing? Do you have a leak somewhere that needs fixing? Leaking water is a big worry. You don’t want water damage to your home or furnishings. When you notice water in a place it shouldn’t be, call your plumber at Roto-Rooter to take a look. At Roto-Rooter we have technicians ready to come when you call, anytime day or night, seven days a week, and even on holidays.
Sometimes with old water pipes, the fittings become loose and you get leaks. Many times though, the water is coming from a broken pipe. One common cause of broken pipes is cold weather. The pipe freezes and breaks and then when the weather warms up, you get a flood of water all over your floor. If you have an outside tap that you hook the hose to, the water pipe leading to it is very vulnerable to freezing temperatures. Since people don’t normally use the hose in winter, you may not even realize your pipe is broken until spring and you resume use of the tap.
If you find that you have water pouring in, the first thing to do, even before you call Roto-Rooter, is get the water stopped. Do you know where your water main shut-off valve is? Everyone in your home needs to be shown how to turn it off in case of emergencies. Once the water is stopped, you can call for help.
With water all over the floor, it is essential that you get it vacuumed up and dried as quickly as you can if you want to avoid mold and mildew taking hold in your walls, floors, and furnishings. Get all the furniture up off the floor and if it is wet, take it outside to dry, or put it in your garage. Either rent or buy a wet and dry vacuum and start pulling the water from the carpet. When you’ve removed all the water that will come up, pull the carpet back, cut the wet part of the pad out, and discard it. This will need to be replaced with a new pad. Next, turn up the heat in the room and put industrial fans around the room to blow on the carpet to help it dry.
