Call Roto-Rooter to Fix Broken Plumbing

Have you ever awakened to find water running into your home and all over your floor? What on earth do you do? Well, the first thing is to get that water stopped. Everyone in the house needs to know where the water-main shut off valve is and how to turn it off. Once the water has stopped, before you even begin to clean it up, call Roto-Rooter and have us come to locate the plumbing problem. Then you can start moving your stuff out of the affected area and begin removing the water.

If your Roto-Rooter technician finds a broken pipe, you may be wondering how it broke. When the cold weather hits, the more vulnerable pipes (like the ones on the outside wall of your home) can freeze. This causes them to break. Once they thaw and water starts to flow through them again, it flows right out on to your floor. This is a common occurrence in frigid climates, especially with the pipe that leads to your outside faucet. Until you turn that faucet on in the spring to water your flowerpots or wash your car, the break may go unnoticed.

While the Roto-Rooter technician is fixing your plumbing, you can begin the clean-up. You will need a utility vacuum that can suck water out of the carpets. Run this over the wet area until you cannot get any more water out. Pull back the carpet and cut out the wet pad. This will have to be replaced with a new pad. Dry the carpet out as quickly as you can by turning up the thermostat in the room and putting industrial fans around to blow air on the carpet. The faster you get the area dry, the better chance you have of avoiding mold and mildew. If you don’t have the tools to get this done, call a disaster clean up company to take care of it.

When everything has dried, check the floorboards, molding, walls, and ceiling to make sure that no mold is growing anywhere. If you can’t tell, get a professional in to test for it. If black mold gets hold somewhere, the spores can be very dangerous to the health of you and your family. Damage to your circulatory system and lungs will result from breathing in the spores and may even be life threatening. If you find black mold, make sure it gets cleaned up in the proper way.
