Your home is equipped with many devices that make your life comfortable and happy. You have an air conditioning system that keeps you cool during the hottest part of the day and a furnace to keep your warm at night. One of the most overlooked, but extremely important, devices is your toilet. Located in your bathroom, this device provides comfort and a resting place from a hard day’s work. It is a simple device, but one that is essential to comfortable living. However, like all mechanical devices that can age and wear-out, you may need contact Roto-Rooter in Queens to do a toilet repair occasionally.
How a Toilet Works
You need two things to make a toilet work—water and gravity. That is what makes this fixture so wonderful. It is simple, yet has such an important function!
The fresh water supply is hooked to the toilet tank. As the water enters the tank, it raises a float, which is attached to a valve. When the float reaches the proper level, it automatically shuts off the water.
When the flusher handle is pushed down, it raises a rubber tank stopper located in the bottom of the toilet tank. Due to the strong forces of gravity, the water rushes out of the tank and into the toilet bowl. Portholes located in the bowl causes the water to swirl as it quickly rushes into the hole in the bottom of the bowl. All waste products are carried with the water into the hole, up through the trap, and out into your home’s sewer system.
Immediately after the water rushes out of the tank, the float drops down. This causes the valve to automatically turn on, thus allowing more water to fill the tank. The rubber stopper automatically drops back into place and plugs the tank hole. When the tank is filled, it waits patiently for the next usage cycle.
