It is important to stay on top of all the different systems in your home to ensure that they are working properly. Things You Will Need

A toilet plunger—every house should have one of these stowed behind every toilet bowl in the house for easy access in case of an emergency.

  • Plumbing snake—this tool is a must have for any do-it-yourself person. It will allow you to reach deep down into your drainage system to reach the source of any problem.
  • Roto-Rooter cleaning products (pipe cleaner, pipe shield, and enzymes)—using these products will help to not only clean, but also fortify and strengthen drainage pipes.
  • Rubber gloves—it is important that you have rubber or plastic cleaning gloves available so that you can keep yourself clean even during the stickiest of situations.

Steps for Success

Consider the following steps for troubleshooting toilet repair:

If you are experiencing a blockage, grab a toilet plunger to work a clog for a few minutes to see if you can restore flow. Most backups are just small hiccups in the system that can be easily fixed after a couple minutes of plunging.

  1. If the blockage is not clearing out, put on some work gloves and grab your plumbing snake. Use the snake to go deep into the plumbing system and push out whatever is in the way.
  2. Use Roto-Rooter pipe cleaner, along with pipe shield and enzymes, to prevent further blockages from forming as easily.
