Roto-Rooter Home Plumbing Repairs and Maintenance Tips

Most homeowners have a large list of chores that they tackle each weekend. It seems that no matter how much work you get done on Saturday there is always something to add to the list afterwards. Unfortunately, your never ending to-do list just got a little bit longer, but for good reason. Taking care of your home plumbing system is an extremely important part of the overall health of your home. When your plumbing is on the fritz, it is extremely frustrating and can potentially lead to serious issues resulting in costly damages and repairs. To make life easier, we here at Roto-Rooter are dedicated to the customer experience. Whether you need us onsite for repairs or simply need access to industry-standard products and tools, we have exactly what you need to resolve problems quickly and efficiently.

Clogged Toilet

If you notice that your toilet clogs often, there may be a few things that you can do to boost drainage flow and prevent clogs from forming in the future. Use the following tips and tricks to boost your own maintenance and repair efforts in the bathroom:

Make sure that everyone using the restroom understands what should and should not be flushed. Only cleaners, toilet paper, and human waste should be flushed down the toilet. Anything outside of this list can cause serious blockages that are difficult to resolve.

  • Make sure to have a toilet plunger stowed beside each toilet in your home. For most blockages, they are simply hiccups in the system that can be resolved very quickly with a toilet plunger. Acting fast with a plunger prevents water from overflowing. Even if this plunger does not fix the clog entirely, it can at least push excess water through the system to prevent messes.
  • Roto-Rooter Drain Cleaner is a fantastic product to use in your toilet bowl once or twice a month. Simply pour this powerhouse cleaner down the drain and flush it. The cleaner knocks out clogs and blockages on contact.
  • For blockages that have to do with solids that are tenacious or difficult to get to, a plumbing snake is a fantastic tool that will resolve the issue quickly. Simply run the snake into the system in a twisting motion so that the claw at the end has plenty of opportunity to grab onto things in the way. Repeat this several times until everything has been removed and drainage flow is restored.
