Repairing Pipes Makes Plumbers Smile

Repairing Pipes Makes Plumbers Smile

Of all the plumbers in Chicago, those who drive Roto-Rooter trucks have the biggest smiles. That is because they are trained in all the latest techniques and plumbing trends. This is great news for all consumers who like to have their plumbing repairs and installations done correctly.

Can you count all the fixtures in your home that a Roto-Rooter professional can help you with? There are a lot of them. They include the air conditioner, the sump pump, the water heater, your outside sprinkler system, all piping hidden in your walls and under your floors, and all your toilets, tubs and sinks. Fortunately, those fixtures do not break or wear-out all at once, but if or when they do, you can rely on your plumbing friends to be there, night or day, seven days a week.

To prolong the life of your fixtures, you can do a few things. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Toilets, Tubs, and Sinks

If you see dark mold and mildew forming in the caulking around your tubs, toilets, and sinks, it is important that you remove it as quickly as possible. Mold can pose a serious health risk and it looks unsightly. If you have tried to remove the mold, but it remains, that means moisture has seeped behind your caulking and you will need to replace it.

With a sharp scraper, remove the old caulking. With a dry towel, wipe the scraped area to remove any scum or mildew. With a fresh tube of caulk, run a bead along the corner surface of the tub and wall. With your finger or a beading tool, smooth the caulking while pressing it into any cracks along the surface. Allow the product to dry for at least twenty-four hours before using the fixture.

If you decide to re-caulk along the base of the toilet, it might be a good time to replace the wax seal located under your toilet bowl. This requires that you remove the toilet from the floor. You can purchase a new wax seal at your local hardware store.

Pipe Problems

If you suspect there are problems with your piping, contact your local Roto-Rooter in Chicago. When you see the Roto-Rooter truck pull-up to your house, you will know that your pipe problems will be repaired with the latest knowledge and precision. If you have been the victim of a pipe leak, make sure that the area around the leak is completely dried to prevent mold and mildew from forming.
