Rely on Expert Plumbers From Roto-Rooter

You just went to bed and the whole house is quiet—except for the drip, drop, drip, drop coming from the bathroom down the hall. It sounds like a rhythmic torture chamber and there is no way you can sleep. You get up to see what can be done. When you arrive on the scene, you notice your old, antique faucet is the culprit. You remember what you learned about your favorite Roto-Rooter plumbing service being on call, day or night, seven days a week. However, you decide to wait until morning. You feel the faucet fixing project can wait. You are tired and just want to sleep. You close the door and put ear plugs in to muffle the dripping sound.

Scenarios play out like this every night in many homes all over the country. Sink faucets have a healthy life expectancy, but like any other piece of mechanical equipment, they contain parts that will wear out over time and need to be fixed or replaced. Perhaps you have the tools and confidence to repair your own faucets. If so, here are a few tips that might be helpful:

  • When using metal tools around your faucet housing, be sure to use a protective barrier if your tools encounter the faucet, so they do not scuff the finish of your fixture.
  • Remember to turn the water supply valve off before beginning work on any pressurized plumbing implement.
  • Be sure to have the correct size of faucet washers and o-rings. Do not force the wrong sized washer into place as it will cause malfunctions in the operation of your faucet.
  • When your water is turned off, it’s a good time to check the water service to your faucets. The pressure fittings that are used in the water tubing begin leaking over time. If you notice small leaks in those couplings, remove the coupling nuts, apply Teflon pipe joint tape to the threads, and retighten the nuts.
  • To prevent leaks around the base of your faucet handles, you will need to replace the rubber o-ring found on the valve stem.
