Conserving water is something we all should do

September 30th, 2011 by pabrams

Water is a precious resource, so it makes sense that we should all do our part to use less of it. As the top Atlanta plumbing company, know water is in short supply due to several very dry years. If your water bill seems higher than it used to be and you feel your house is using more water than it should be, hire a qualified Atlanta Plumber to do leak detection. Atlanta is an area that doesn’t get enough rain most of the time. Lately, we haven’t had an abundant water supply and our reservoirs could stand some help.

If you fix leaky faucets and toilets, you can easily save thousands of gallons of water per year.  Don’t wait, do that faucet repair. If we all start fixing the leaks, we have the potential to save a significant amount of water.  This can also limit the implementation of more extreme measures like lawn watering restrictions, which are never popular.

If you would like assistance with these plumbing problems, Roto-Rooter has the right plumber in every American city, including Atlanta. We are your 24 hour plumbing provider and can provide leak detection services, faucet repairs, bathroom plumbing solutions and any other necessary Atlanta plumbing and drain service.

Ice makers can cause serious water damage when they leak

August 27th, 2010 by Roto Rooter Bloggers

Ice makers can be a convenient feature to have on your refrigerator, but as one of our customers recently learned, they can occasionally cause big problems - so you need to be careful. While vacuuming her living room carpet our soon-to-be customer noticed that her carpet was soaking wet and there were mushrooms coming up through the carpet! Naturally, she thought that she had a slab leak. So the first thing she did was call the top name among Memphis plumbers, Roto-Rooter of Memphis.

Fred Simmons, Roto-Rooter of Memphis' most experienced leak locator, was dispatched to the customer's home and discovered that the problemwas caused by a cracked water supply tube leading to the refrigerator's ice maker. This was a simple repair with a $5.00 part. However, the amount of water damage that this kind of water leaking problem can cause to carpet, drywall or wood flooring is another story altogether. So here is what everyone with an ice maker should learn from our customer's unfortunate experience: Check the condition of the water supply tubing that feeds the ice maker on your refrigerator! If the line is cracked, dry or brittle, change it immediately. You will be glad you did.

How do you check it? Carefully pull your refrigerator away from the wall. Go slow and get help. For safety's sake, have someone else assist you. Get behind the refrigerator and sweep away the dozens of dust bunnies that have accumulated. You will notice a small diameter plastic or copper tube clipped to the back of the unit that is runs vertically along the surface. This is your water supply line. Use a vacuum to remove dust from around the tube and go ahead and vacuum dust from all of the vents. Then inspect the tubing carefully. Look for signs of water on the floor. If the tubing shows any signs of stress or it is more than ten years old, consider replacing it with a new tube, preferably a flexible stainless steel tube instead of a plastic one. Just like a washing machine hose, these water supply lines can burst or leak and can cause lots of damage before you notice the problem.

If you are not sure what is causing a mysterious water leak at your home or business, you can always call Roto-Rooter Plumbers in Memphis at 901-323-4285 or contact any Roto-Rooter location across the nation at 1-800-ROTO-911. New Orleans Plumbers of Roto-Rooter Reveal Some Water Shut Off Wisdom

June 3rd, 2010 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

If you are experiencing a major leak/water issue the New Orleans plumbers of Roto-Rooter recommend that you shut off the main valve.  The water shut off valve is typically located where the main supply pipe enters your home, usually coming up through the basement floor near the water meter.

The main shut off will either be one or two valves near the main water supply pipe, which can be turned on and off by hand. There may also be an alternative shut off outside of your home, which can be referred to as a “buffalo box.” If you have a buffalo box, it generally is found in the ground near the edge of your property or street. Once you locate the box, you will most likely have to pry open its round metal cover and you can turn the valve by hand or a long handled key.

When involved in a more extensive project and frequently need to shut off the system, it is recommended to use the external shut off (especially if you have an older home) because it can break, leak or stop shutting off entirely.  If you are in the New Orleans area and are in need of any of our plumbing services, please call us at (504) 737-7111 or visit our New Orleans plumber Web site for online scheduling.

Pittsburgh Plumbers of Roto-Rooter offer Sump Pump System Services

May 19th, 2010 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

Sump pumps can solve the majority of basement flooding and water leaking issues, and our Pittsburgh plumbers would be happy to assist you with all of your sump pump needs.  They are able to install a sump pump system, which will direct water from around and beneath your basement’s foundation into a sump pit. The electric powered pump will then discharge the water out of the pit and into a city storm drain or location approved by Pittsburgh codes.

Our plumbers can do replacements as well. Like any piece of equipment with moving parts, sump pumps will wear out over time.  Replacement time is most dependent upon how frequently it is used, but can vary based upon the make and model you have in your home.  It is also recommended that you test the functionality of your sump pump regularly. You can test it by pouring a bucket of water into the sump pit; the pump should then turn on for a few seconds to remove the water and then shut itself off.

If you are in the Pittsburgh area and are thinking about sump pump installation or replacement, feel free to contact us at (412) 793-9200 or visit our Pittsburgh plumber web site for additional information and online scheduling.
