Ghost Hunters returned to the TV airwaves last Wednesday on the SciFi Channel. The show is now two episodes into season 5. Ghost Hunters features two Roto-Rooter plumbing service technicians who moonlight as paranormal investigators. Yes, they really are real Roto-Rooter plumbers. Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson are longtime service techs at Roto-Rooter's Providence, Rhode Island Branch.
When the pair first approached me in 2004 with their idea of including scenes from their day jobs at Roto-Rooter in a new TV show they were pitching, some of our senior managers were a little nervous about the idea. It was a gamble for us, as the largest of all plumbing contractors, we had a lot to lose if the public hated the show or thought the subject matter was too controversial. But management eventually agreed to take part in the show because both Jason and Grant had stellar employee records and were two of our very best service technicians without a blemish on their employee records. "They're the best of the best," said their general manager at the time.
Five seasons into Ghost Hunters, Jason and Grant have become recognized celebrities. The show is one of the highest rated shows on cable. In the process, the pair has helped introduce Roto-Rooter's plumbing services to a new generation of homeowners who watch the show. I'm sometimes asked if fame has gone to their heads. Nah, Jason and Grant are still the same two regular guys from Warwick. Right as rain, good as gold. I've had the pleasure of getting to know them and their families over the past few years and I feel fortunate to call them friends. Congratulations on the start of another great season, guys. Ghost Hunters can be seen Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time on the SciFi Channel. Be sure to check out the TAPS home page too.
