Well, last weekend I rolled up the outside hoses and put them away for the winter. I went ahead and capped our hose bibs (outside faucets) with styrofoam insulation kits since I'm not likely to use it any more this season. If you live in a northern region, I would advise you to do the same. Temperatures are already dipping below freezing at night here in Cincinnati and some areas of the country already have an early blanket of snow. If you leave that garden hose connected, the water inside will freeze and could freeze the faucet causing stress on the pipe or even a crack. Once that leak starts, you're going to require an expensive plumbing repair from some very busy local plumbing contractors.
You may also want to have some sewer cleaning done right about now before your local plumbing companies start getting busy. Why now? Because Thanksgiving is right around the corner and if your sewer or household drainpipes are partially clogged now (are your drains kind of slow?), just wait until they get overloaded on Thanksgiving. That's the one day that pushes most houses over the edge! Busy meals in the kitchen mean lots of potato peels, grease, rice and other materials down the kitchen sink drain.
The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for plumbers. Better to call plumbing companies now than wait until your sink or sewer is backed up on a holiday weekend when you might be paying higher rates and waiting longer for a 24 hour plumbing service to come to your rescue. All I'm saying is thinking ahead will save you time, trouble and money! Try our EZ online scheduling to set up a service call when it fits your schedule.
