Faucet Repair You Can Count On

April 16th, 2012 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

When you were washing the dishes the last time, did you notice anything weird with your sink’s hardware? Did your water run smoothly? Did you notice any small leaks? Unfortunately, small leaks can occur and will only grow bigger if they are not fixed in a timely manner. For faucet repair in Fresno, you know you can turn to the plumbing professionals at Roto-Rooter, who will do a great job at a reasonable price.

It is often necessary to regularly check all utilities in your home and make sure they are working properly. We suggest the following maintenance checks be performed annually.

  • Water heater: Check your heater yearly and make sure that there is no debris, lint or dirt around your appliance. If your heater is located in the laundry room, make sure that there are no clothes near the appliance that may have fallen and gone unnoticed. If possible, strap the heater to the nearest wall. Strapping material can be purchased at your local hardware store.
  • Furnace/Air Conditioner: Check your filters often. Usually doing this check every few months is a good habit. A dirty filter causes more stress on the blower motor, in addition to lowering the overall productivity of the unit. Remove the front panel covers and clean the dust out of the unit.
  • Caulking: Check for cracks in the caulk sealing around the tub, toilet and sinks in your home. This is good to do every year. If you notice a black mold and mildew accumulating behind your caulking that is a good indicator it is time to completely replace that caulk. Call us to for a free estimate.
  • Drains and faucets: Your home drains should be completely free of any stoppage. If you notice a slow draining sink, be sure to contact us as soon as possible. Accumulations of ground food from the disposal in addition to grease will compact and completely clog your pipe. This could cause possible flooding if left ignored. Our technicians will clean out your pipes, so you don’t have to worry. In the process of checking your drains, we will take notice of any water running out of the bottom of your faucets. This would be an indicator that you are in need of a faucet repair in Fresno. While our technician is cleaning the trap in your drain, he will be happy to replace the rubber seals in your faucets.

For professional service that you can trust, call Roto-Rooter, day or night.

Plumbing Advice from the Pros: Roto-Rooter

April 6th, 2012 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

Just like getting your car serviced every few thousand miles is extremely important for future use, a full and comprehensive house inspection is essential to staying on top of future plumbing maintenance. As a homeowner, however, there are so many different parts of a house to maintain, which can quickly get overwhelming. Luckily, Roto-Rooter offers plumbing expertise and is a leader in the industry. Since 1935, we have set the standard for outstanding customer service, products and professional knowledge. With all the know-how we have about plumbing in Fresno, take the following into consideration to see how far a little plumbing knowledge can take you.

Leaky faucets are a mess. They leak water day and night and are responsible for more than just an annoying sound. In fact, one drippy faucet alone can waste up to $20 of water a month. With a few of those around a house, you’re looking at more substantial bills to pay. Leaky faucets are, however, very easy to fix. First, turn off the water to the faucet. Next, use a wrench to loosen the nut holding the faucet head in place. Once it is loosened enough to remove, take a look inside. You will notice a small sealant washer sitting against the seat. This little washer acts as a switch letting water through, as well as, holding it back when in the off position. Over time, water can start to seep through and warp the piece. If you notice this is the case, simply replace it with something fitted in its place and your leak should disappear.

Frozen pipes can cause a lot of stress during the winter months. As the temperatures drop, frozen water starts to form inside exposed waterlines. While the ice may seem like the culprit, you will notice the cracks in pipes actually form in places where there is no ice at all. This is because as the ice forms, small pockets of air get caught. As the pressure builds, the air is forced under pressure to burst through a pipe, forming a crack or shattering the line altogether. To prevent this from happening this year, all you have to do is beef up the insulation in your walls and wrap exposed pipes with a little extra insulation.

Plumbing Problems: Call the Professionals

April 6th, 2012 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

Are you aware of all the available amenities associated with living in the 21st Century? You have running water, inside appliances that remove waste products from your home and hot water. When you turn up the thermostat, your home becomes warmer. When you turn down the thermostat and switch to the ‘cool’ setting, your air conditioner starts running. There are so many conveniences that make our lives so much easier and more comfortable. However, because these conveniences usually rely on mechanical devices to perform, it is possible that you could, at any moment, experience plumbing problems in Fresno.

You should not worry or lose sleep. Severe problems with utilities rarely occur, but when they do, you are usually right there to take note of the problem and get it fixed. However, there are some steps you can take to make sure there are no problems with your appliances. Here are a few things to consider doing on a yearly basis to prevent problems from occurring.

  • Food disposal: Make sure you do not put grease or certain food products down your disposal. Instead, use the kitchen garbage can. Things like potato peelings, fruit and vegetable peelings or rinds are not always good for this appliance. They will compact and clog in your drain trap. If this happens, however, we are just a phone call away and will be happy to clear the clog. While our technician is there, he will check your disposal for any leaks or loose fittings.
  • Faucets: Kitchen sprayers and faucets are handy tools, but they can spring leaks. When this happens, flooding can occur under your sink and seep into lower rooms below your kitchen. Also, mold and mildew can accumulate from slow leaks from your kitchen and bathroom faucets. It is a good idea to check these periodically and make sure there is no leaking around seals. If you notice a leak, call as soon as possible and our technician will be there to diagnose and fix the problem. He will check the rubber seals at the base of faucet stem, which wear out with time and need to be replaced.

Many plumbing problems in Fresno  you might encounter are not always inside your home. Often, landscape sprinkler systems break and leak. If you suddenly see a geyser forming in your front yard, give us a call. Our technicians will turn off your system and diagnose the problem. In no time, your grass will be getting watered again and your sprinklers will work as good as when they were installed.

Plumbing Repair Advice from Roto-Rooter

March 12th, 2012 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

There’s not a whole lot you can do when the basement floods except throw your hands up and call in the professionals to come take care of the mess. Roto-Rooter has been around since 1935 helping millions of people deal with these types of problems as they arise. Through all of these experiences, we have developed a brand that is synonymous with great service, products, and people. With that it mind, we have also found it beneficial to many of our customers to provide simple plumbing advice for normal issues that pop up frequently. While they may seem like small things, most out of control flooding and other serious problems happen because the little things were overlooked.

Many times we find ourselves apologizing to guests that the toilet is clogged, for the shower not draining, or the water not being warm enough. To fix these problems, all you have to do is stay on top of a few little things and you’ll be good as gold.

  • Clogged toilets happen as toilet bowls get older and when drain pipes get dirty. You want to always keep the flow for every flush. A simple way to do this is to never flush too much at a time. If this means multiple flushes per person, then that should be expressed to everyone using the facility. Also, cleaning regularly will keep dirt and grime from sticking and building up on the sides of drainpipes. Roto-Rooter cleaning products give you a lot of different options that work great for keeping a drain clean and smooth.
  • When drains in the bathroom or kitchen stop draining, it is usually because they are not cleaned regularly. In the bathroom, hair, soap, and dirt quickly combine to form serious clogs in the works. To get things flowing again, all you have to do is grab a little screwdriver and pull out the crud in the way. In the kitchen, just use a spoon or anything you can to pull out the visible gunk. After this, pipe cleaner is a great way to strip away the extra garbage in your kitchen and bathroom drains so that they are cleaner than the day they were installed.
  • If for some reason you notice that water isn’t getting as hot as it should be, it might be a good idea to check out the water heater. If for some reason it is having problems, call a Roto-Rooter technician to come out and perform maintenance to get it running properly before it breaks down entirely.

Is Water Heater Repair Possible for You?

March 9th, 2012 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

When the hot water heater starts to have some problems you may be worried that you will have to replace it all together. While that is a possibility, it is not an automatic thing. You may be able to have it repaired. To know for sure, you will need to call a company that does water heater repair in Fresno, like us.

We can come into the home and determine what the issue is with the water heater and then either repair it or let you know that it will need to be replaced. However, there are some clues that you can look for that may give you a hint of whether or not it will need to be replaced or can be repaired.

  1. If your water heater is simply running out of hot water too soon, there are many different possibilities. One, the unit is just too small for the demand. However, if this has never been an issue before and nothing has dramatically changed in your home as far as the demand for hot water, then this is not likely the case. This would be the only one in which the water heater would need to be replaced. All of the other possibilities, such as a dip tube, thermostat, cross connection, etc are all fixable without replacing the entire water heater.
  2. If you are experiencing rust colored water from the hot water tap, this is something that is repairable. A simple replacement of the sacrificial anode rod with a magnesium anode rod and you will be good to go. This is the part the dissolves slowly over time to keep the tank from rusting, so rust colored water tells you that it is time to replace that part.
  3. If you are hearing a lot of rumbling and popping noises from your water heater, what you are hearing is the boiling of water. This is a sign that there is excessive build up on the bottom of the tank and that is causing it to overheat and boil the water. All of the solutions to this are things that can be done without replacing the water heater.

The more you learn about water heaters the more you are going to understand that many issues that water heaters have are repairable without replacement. We do water heater repair in Fresno and we would be happy to come to your home and diagnose it and repair it.

Life From the Plumbers View

March 6th, 2012 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

There are many jokes about the plumbers crack, referring to a little behind showing when a plumber is bent down to work on some plumbing under the sink. However, have you ever thought about the view from the plumber’s angle? What they are seeing may be far more embarrassing to you and you may not even know it.

If you were to take a survey of the plumbers in Fresno they would tell you that there are more nasty things under the sinks in the homes of Fresno than any single plumber here and there that may have a little problem showing off a little behind while fixing your plumbing issues.

To make sure you are not embarrassed the next time you need to have the plumbers come over to your home here are some simple tips that you can follow so you are not caught in an awkward moment.

  1. Make sure that you do not let a leaky faucet go for very long without being fixed. Leaky faucets create a nasty scene under the sink. If you have a leaky faucet you should also place a towel under the sink where the leak finds its way to the cabinet floor. This will stop it from becoming nasty until you have the plumbers come over.
  2. We know that you store everything but the kitchen sink under the sink, but we would recommend that you remove it before having us come over. It will make out job easier and make sure that you are not embarrassed when we find a dead mouse under there. This way, you will be able to find those embarrassing things and clean them up before we come.
  3. Take a rag and some cleaner to the pipes under the sink. Clean them off. This removes some of the nasty from under the sink.

These few simple steps will help ensure that you are not embarrassed when one of the plumbers in Fresno comes over to your home to fix the kitchen sink. It will also make it much easier for us and a lot less gross to do our job. We promise to work with those guys that may be having a problem showing you some of their backsides while they fix your kitchen sink. Together, we can make this whole experience of having a lumber come to your home a lot more enjoyable.

Why Hire Professional Plumbers

February 24th, 2012 by Roto-Rooter Bloggers

When you have a plumbing problem you may want to repair it yourself. However, some plumbing issues can be quite difficult to tackle on your own. There are several reasons you should think about hiring one of the many professional plumbers in Fresno. Listed below are a few to consider.

  1. Save Time – Face it, if you are not a professional plumber it is going to take you much longer to obtain the knowledge they already have. Isn’t your time worth something?
  2. Warranty – When you have a professional come to make a repair their work is typically under warranty. If something were to go wrong, they will come back to follow up with the repair. If you do the work on your own and something goes wrong, the issue can quickly get much more expensive.
  3. Peace of mind – You know as well as anyone that your wife is going to question the quality of your work and whether it was done correctly. If you hire a professional you won’t have to worry about the longevity of your repair and she will get her own peace of mind.
  4. Necessary Tools – When you try to do a plumbing repair you may run into issues because you do not have the proper tools. When you hire a professional, they all the equipment and know how to use it most importantly.

Repaired sooner – 9 times out of 10, when you are going to do your own plumbing repair, you will not get to it as quickly as a professional plumber. It is a simple matter of the fact that you are not going to have nearly as much opportunity to get it done in a very quick time frame like professional plumbers in Fresno will.

  2. Another tool that we are going to have that you may not is the dental pick tool. This is useful in getting the O rings off and also in guiding the seats and springs back into place.  Without it you will find it harder to get the job done.
  3. We know how to do the repair. Although the do it yourselfer kind of people can figure out how to do the repair, it is far quicker to have us come in and make the repair because we know exactly what we are doing and we do it all of the time.
